Tender Steak & Seafood – Luxor

Dec 03

Luxor isn’t one of the high-end casinos on the strip (it’s actually one of the low-cost hotels), but the steakhouse there was surprisingly good. It’s not quite up to the level of my favorite Vegas steakhouse (that would be Craftsteak at MGM), but I would definitely visit again.

Cravings Buffet – The Mirage

Dec 05

This has become our favorite Las Vegas buffet not only because it is located in our favorite hotel on the strip, but also because there is such a wide variety of fresh and tasty food. It has enough options for my picky, texture-eater husband who has an infinite list of things he will NOT eat, and enough options for me who has severe IBS.

KA by Cirque Du Soleil – MGM Grand

Sep 16

KA by Cirque Du SoleilWe got 2 for 1 tickets for KA, located in the MGM Grand, at MyVegas rewards. MyVegas is an online game where you play free slot machines to collect loyalty points. These points can purchase actual rewards such as free food, drinks, or desserts at a bar or restaurant in Vegas, free companion ticket to a Vegas show, a percentage off a Royal Caribbean cruise, and so on. We used our points to purchase “premium” seats to KA.

Mac King Comedy Magic Show – Harrah’s

Sep 16

The show is located in Harrah’s and is one of the only shows in Las Vegas running during the afternoon. It is suitable for both adults and kids. I went in with low expectations since comedians never make me laugh and magic is of no interest to me but Mac King was funny and engaging and the magic was actually pretty impressive. I highly recommend the show to everyone.

The Mirage Hotel and Casino

Sep 16

We have stayed at the Mirage numerous times as it is our preferred hotel in Las Vegas. The location just can’t be beat. It is in the very center of the Strip which makes getting around easy. Check in is always quick and simple and even though the casino is older, they do an excellent job of keeping it clean and smelling decent by filtering the air so the cigarette smell isn’t overwhelming.

The very comfortable hotel rooms have recently been redone in a modern and colorful style. We have stayed on several different floors in a basic guest room. These basic rooms do not have a strip view (this costs extra) and have plenty of space for two people. We have always found the bed to be comfortable and like the overhead reading lights. The closet is spacious and includes a safe. Although the bathroom is small, it has high end touches and the lighted, magnifying mirror is a nice touch which I like using as a night light. There’s a standard shower and only one sink in the bathroom.

The Beatles LOVE by Cirque Du Soleil – The Mirage

Aug 24

I became a Beatles fan when I was just a kid so I was obviously very excited about seeing this show. Thankfully, it did not let me down!

Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak – MGM Grand

Aug 16

We have dinner at Craftsteak every time we are in Las Vegas, which is a few times a year. I recommend reservations because it is very popular. During one visit, even though we had reservations and arrived on time, the hostess kept telling us “it will just be another 15 minutes.” Over an hour later we were finally shown to our table and the apparent look of anger on our faces prompted the staff to offer us complimentary desserts. I will talk more about the dessert in a minute. But that type of ridiculous wait only happened once and all our other visits have been flawless.

Vdara Hotel

Jan 04

Vdara is a non-gaming, non-smoking hotel and resort. As an Mlife member, I got a good deal on the room so I decided to check it out. I arrived early in the morning and was able to check in with no problem well before “check in time.”

Five50 Pizza Bar – Aria

Jan 04

If you are looking for the best pizza on the Vegas strip, look no further than the Five50 Pizza Bar in Aria. It’s located near the sports book not far from the poker room. The place is named for the temperature the chef believes is perfect for pizza.

Five50 Pizza Bar

These are big New York-style slices of pizza with ample toppings, plenty of cheese and a zesty sauce in just the right amount. If you’re looking for a quick lunch, you can order by the slice right at the counter and have your food in just minutes. Like I said, it’s the best pizza I’ve had in Vegas and I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

The Mirage Private Oasis Pool and Cabanas

Jun 26

The Private Oasis Pool is hidden and tucked away to the side of the main pool creating a peaceful and relaxing respite from the crowded scene of the main pool. Usually, there are never more than 25 people present. The large, heated pool is never crowded and anytime you feel like taking a refreshing dip, you’ll pretty much have the pool all to yourself. Everyone must be over 21 which helps foster a very quiet and calm atmosphere.
