Tuscany Suites & Casino

Jan 17

My husband is an avid poker player and loves visiting Las Vegas a few times a year. When we got together, he often shared his love of Vegas with me, but I, not being a gambler, never showed any interest in going until we happened to win a 2 night stay in Vegas at a charity auction.

The hotel was called The Tuscany Suites & Casino and was off the strip but really not that far from all the action. My husband had never stayed off strip before and I was worried that it would not be very nice but we were both pleasantly surprised with our stay.

We arrived early and paid $11 for early check in. The lobby smelled terribly of smoke due to the nearby bar however, everything in sight looked very clean. To get to the guest rooms we had to walk outside along quiet walkways surrounded by large palm trees and nice landscaping.

Though our room was not what I would call fancy, it was incredibly spacious, clean, and quiet. The little kitchen with fridge didn’t seem very usable as silverware, dishes and such were not provided.

The bathroom was spacious with a separate tub and shower but there was noticeable wear and tear throughout. In fact, we got trapped in the shower every time we used it and couldn’t get out unless we pushed on the door really hard.

Marilyn’s café (open 24 hrs and the equivalent of a Denny’s or IHOP) was our stop for lunch two days in a row. Being connected to the small casino meant that the restaurant smelled like cigarette smoke but sitting in the very back of the restaurant solved that problem. We ordered the philly cheese steak with hashed browns (you can pick your side-they have a lot to choose from), the grilled cheese with applesauce, the Marilyn’s Sampler which had big mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, and cheese fries, and the beef French dip with fries. Portions were huge and everything was tasty.

The outdoor pool, which was mostly filled with families and older couples, was heated and there was also a hot tub. Like the rest of the property, the pool was surrounded by large trees and grass and overall had a very tropical feel.

Walking to the strip was so easy. From the front of the hotel, you just walk 5 minutes down Flamingo directly to Bally’s. It was completely safe. We walked it several times, including at night.

Once you get to Bally’s you go into the back entrance of the hotel which is the door for the sports book/shops and from there you can either jump right on the monorail or walk through the Bally’s shops and the casino and it will put you right on the strip, or instead of walking through the Bally’s casino, walk through Paris and that will put you on the strip too. It’s all connected so it’s really simple.

My husband and I were pleased with the Tuscany Suites. I would recommend this place to those who want to be close the strip without having to pay the high cost of the hotels.
