The Point Orlando Resort

Sep 30

My husband and I, and my parents-in-law were staying in Orlando for a few days to visit the Disney parks. We knew we’d need two separate bedrooms with a shared living area and The Point was perfect for us not only because of the spacious accommodations but also the location. Near the hotel is the widely known I-Drive, or International Drive. This area has a plethora of dining options, shopping, and activities like Wet N’ Wild, CSI Experience, Wonder Works, SeaWorld, Universal Studios, and so much more. Plus, the Disney parks are a simple 20 minute drive away.

The Point likes to describe itself as a luxury property but I can tell you that is an exaggeration. In terms of quality, I would compare The Point to the Holiday Inn. I like staying at the Holiday Inn but would never in a million years call it as a luxury property!

The 2 Bedroom Family Suite with 1,100 sq. ft. and 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms was a perfect fit for us. When we unlocked the door and walked into our hotel room, we stepped into our own little foyer with 2 door entrances- the left door lead to what was the smaller bedroom and the right to the large suite. We always kept these two interior doors propped open with a chair.

The door on the left had a basic sized hotel room with a king bed, TV, small seating area, small private bathroom, and kitchenette.

The door to the right lead to a large suite which included a good sized living room with a TV, a dining table, and full kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, fridge, pots and pans, plates, glasses, and silverware.  There was even a washer and dryer with one box of detergent (more is sold in the lobby).

This bigger suite also had a private bedroom with king bed, TV, little seating area, and a bathroom that was much larger than the bathroom in the smaller bedroom. It had a separate shower and bath tub. We felt we had ample space and liked that everything appeared new and clean.

Apart from our room, we found the hotel to be well maintained and the staff friendly. The pool area was very inviting with palm trees, a large and clean swimming pool, a bar, and plenty of seating.

A miniscule breakfast buffet was offered in the morning for a fee but instead, we always went to IHOP for breakfast which was right around the corner and was cheaper.

What I disliked about our stay was that there was not a safe in the room.  They’re only available at the front desk. Another negative was that the bed in our room was the hardest and loudest I’ve ever slept on in my life. Every time we’d roll over, there was so much noise that my husband and I would both wake up.

Also, there was an entrance door on the side of the hotel which made for easy entry when we parked there but the door didn’t have a keyed entry so anyone could walk in. In fact, throughout the evening we kept getting flyers pushed under our door for restaurants in the area. The only other thing I didn’t care for was that free wireless internet was only available in the lobby.

Despite the aforementioned negatives, overall it was a positive experience and I think The Point is ideal for those traveling with a large family who need extra space or need two separate bedrooms with a shared living area.
