InterContinental Toronto Centre

We were in Canada for the first time celebrating our anniversary and purchased the Romance Package with our room which was a little more than $500 for one night. The Romance Package came with: dinner in the hotel restaurant called Azure, breakfast in bed, free valet, and a gift basket that had chocolates and a Bath and Body Works shower gel and lotion.

We were in an Executive Club Level room that had a nice view of the downtown area and never heard any city noise from outside our window.

Our room was clean and nicely decorated but I found it odd that even though we spent $500 for one night, we had a small bathroom with standard shower and fabric curtain and one sink.

There was a safe in the room and a fridge stocked with items you have to pay for. The large, flat screen TV appeared new and the room had two robes and slippers.

Executive Club Level Rooms come with access to the lounge that had continental breakfast, afternoon tea with scones and sandwiches, and evening hors d’oeuvres. Non-alcoholic drinks were free but alcohol could be charged to our room. These treats were a nice touch throughout the day. Club level also had free internet.

Dinning in their restaurant, Azure, was an unremarkable experience. We got to choose a starter, entree, and dessert. The food was great but service was incredibly slow. We never got drink refills and our bread basket was brought out very late. The tables around us had the same slow service but no one seemed bothered by it. It’s probably just that we, as Americans, are accustomed to prompt and efficient restaurant service.

Breakfast in bed arrived quickly. The Romance Package only included the Canadian Breakfast which was eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, and a fruit cup. It was tasty and filling but I really had my heart set on pancakes.

Although the scent of chlorine was overwhelming in the pool area, it was indoors and the water was heated which is a must in the freezing cold temperatures of Toronto. There were only 4 lounge chairs and 3 regular chairs that were all occupied so we had nowhere to sit or place our belongings. The pool restrooms had a steam room, showers, hair dryers, and lockers.

We enjoyed our stay. The combination of the romance package and lounge amenities were nice extras but for future trips we will likely try other hotels in the area.
