Climbing Diamond Head is something you must do if you are visiting Oahu. Get there early to avoid crowds. The hike to the summit was rather lengthy and for us, was made more difficult by the fact that it had rained all morning before we arrived. The rocky ground had become slippery and we almost fell several times but I am still glad we went.
About halfway up there was a spot to stop for pictures and it was amusing to see how far we had come and how much further we still needed to go.
Near the summit, there were stairs that go straight up without a break for what seemed like an eternity and you don’t want to be a slow poke in the single-file line so you may want to ensure you are in somewhat good shape to go up the stairs at a decent pace. We were able to ascend the stairs without stopping but were out of breath at the top and could feel our legs burning. After that bit of hard work we were rewarded with the one of the best views our eyes have ever seen.

This hike is a workout but totally worth it. Make sure to bring some water. We didn’t plan ahead and didn’t have any water with us so we were dying of thirst by the time we finished.
